Discover how we grew from a small backyard fish farm into one of Ghana's most innovative agricultural hubs.
The River Flow Journey
Just like the waters of Volta Lake, our journey winds and grows. Discover the milestones that shaped our path.
History of Business
Prune and Sprinkle Fish Farm began in September 2022 with 1000 catfish in Accra. Due to water management costs and expansion plans, we relocated to Volta Lake in February 2023. Currently housing 60,000 Tilapia and 10,000 catfish, our farm thrives as we continue to grow and innovate.
What makes us unique
Prune and Sprinkle stands out for its dual approach to aquaculture: operating on the vast Volta Lake and embracing innovative aquaponics at home. Our blend of traditional fish farming with modern, sustainable practices not only ensures quality produce but also fosters community engagement, offering education and opportunities for urban youth.
Business Model
Prune and Sprinkle Fish Farm leverages the rich waters of the Volta Lake in Ghana's South Dayi District, specializing in the cultivation of catfish and tilapia within floating cages. Our innovative approach extends to urban areas with aquaponics systems, utilising 9 IBC fish tanks in Accra's heart. By integrating aquaculture with urban agriculture, we foster sustainability and community engagement. With a commitment to quality, efficiency, and environmental stewardship, we aim to meet local demand while pioneering methods that empower youth and promote economic growth. Prune and Sprinkle Fish Farm: Nurturing aquatic life, enriching communities, and shaping the future of aquaculture.
Proof of Concept
Our start-up has achieved proof of concept as mortality rates decrease with our move to the lake, leveraging fresh water for production. Buyers frequent the lakeside for inspection and purchases, signaling market demand. Ample space at the site paves the way for future expansion, affirming our business viability.
Target Market
Prune and Sprinkle Fish Farm targets diverse markets, including exporters for international trade, food vendors for local distribution, restaurants seeking fresh seafood, and schools promoting nutritious meals. By catering to these segments, the farm aims to provide high-quality fish products to various stakeholders, ensuring freshness and sustainability.
